Course Description:

The media is the window to our world, and the technological progress under globalisation has drastically changed the media landscape. Global information is brought ever-faster to our screens. With that speed in information, comes speed and volume in discussions: how do we know which sources of information to trust, is media biased, and what do we know about the industry that provides us with our daily source of information and/or entertainment?

You will learn to

  • Explain the big theories that explain media, including its functions, evolution, and the role it plays in society.
  • Understand critical topics such as confirmation bias, the impact of fake news, media neutrality, and media objectivity.
  • Use debate to see multiple sides of the same coin, and deal with the complexities and ambiguities in media.
